For me, the last day of the Cognos Forum ‘08 was solely about the new Powerplay functionality that might be released in Cognos 8.4. I attended a session that featured a demo of this new functionality, and provided some more information about this new Cognos version. First of all, the new powerplay functionality seems to be positioned as a sort of legacy feature; a way to get existing Cognos 7 users onto the new Cognos 8 platform. It was confirmed that this studio would not be the center of attention when it comes to new developments. Concerning these developments; it was mentioned that the new version of Cognos will support an improved zero-suppression functions; based on the zero-suppression of the old Cognos 7 series. Other improvements are for example changes in drill-through behavior and improvements in the cube-swap process. A lot of interesting new features in short; especially the changes in zero-suppression seem like a godsend to me!

Hi,
I’m fairly new to cognos BI, and I’m wondering whether you’ve heard a launchdate for Cognos 8.4?
